Fix iTunes Error 1013 and Error Code 1611 - iPhone 4 update to iOS 4.2.1 Issue!

As latest iOS get releases, Apple provides the updates for their customers and users who can then update their iOS Devices. However sometimes problems occur and one of the problem that has been encountered with while updating iPhone 4 operating system to its latest version of operating system called iOS 4.2.1. Users when tried to update their iPhone 4 to this latest iOS update, encountered the Error Code 1013 and Error Code 1611. If you are getting this error too then you are not alone as thousands of people across the world are experiencing the same problem. Not only iPhone 4, but other iOS devices for which iOS 4.2.1 update is available are also getting these problems.

Some people had tried to restore their iPhone to previous time so that things become fine again but no luck and they are still getting iTunes Error 1013 and Error code 1611. This situation becomes critical if you are trying to restore iPhone to an earlier iPhone backup which is corrupted. Here are some steps to fix error code 1013:

For Mac users:

  • On you Mac machine, go to applications folder
  • Then Go to the utilities folder
  • Launch Terminal
  • Type this command “sudo nano /etc/hosts” and click Return
  • Enter your password
  • Look for the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text
  • Then save the file using Ctrl+O
  • Exit the nano editor by pressing Ctrl+X
  • Then Restore your iDevice (iPhone 4)

For Windows Users:

  • Start > Programs > Accessories
  • Run Notepad or Wordpad
  • Click Open from File menu
  • Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
  • In the file type, select All Documents
  • Now open hosts
  • Now delete the lines that include “gs.apple.com” and Save it
  • Now restore the device

It is recommended to backup your iDevice i.e. iPhone 4 before you are going for the iOS update because if anything goes wrong then chances are some or all of your data corrupts. If you try to take a 32 GB iPhone 4 complete backup then it may take hours but you should do this once so that next time the backup becomes faster.
